Huangshan "Tu Maofeng" - A Noble Mingqian Green Tea

The Meaning of the Name:

Mingqian (Pre-Qingming) 明前: Harvested before the Qingming Festival (early April), the tender buds slowly unfurl in the lingering chill of spring. Rich in amino acids, they yield a mild, sweet infusion without bitterness - the hallmark of premium green tea.

Huangshan 黄山: Grown in the mist-veiled peaks of Anhui's Huangshan region, where mineral-rich soil and cool high altitudes shape the tea's unique character.

"Tu Maofeng 土毛峰" ("earthy" Maofeng): "Tu" (rustic/earthy) refers to traditional hand-processing - with slightly irregular form but authentic charm.

Appearance: Plump buds covered in silvery down, loosely curled in shades of jade and pale gold.

Sensory Pleasure

Aroma: Delicate yet persistent - notes of fresh orchids, chestnut blossoms, or dew-moist spring grass.

Taste: A harmonious play of sweetness, like the first sip from a mountain spring, with a honeyed aftertaste.

Tea Liquor: Pale as celadon porcelain, radiant like morning light through bamboo.

The Origin

The soul of this tea lies in Huangshan's microclimates:

Fuxi Village (富溪乡): The homeland of authentic Huangshan Maofeng, where ancient tea gardens cling to cloud-caressed slopes.

Shexian & Xiuning (歙县/休宁): High-altitude plantations imbue the leaves with "Shan Yun" (mountain essence) - a trace of minerals and mist.

Artisanal Craft

Traditional Processing: Wok-fired over wood flames, hand-rolled and dried in bamboo baskets - each step follows centuries-old techniques.
Slow Roasting: Charcoal coaxes out a gentle roasted aroma, a rustic contrast to industrially dried teas.

The Art of Brewing

Water: 85°C - too hot and the sweetness fades.
Vessel: A glass to observe the leaves' dance, or a porcelain gaiwan to concentrate the aroma.
Preparation:
With glass: 3 grams to 180 ml; the first infusion (60 seconds) rewards with "liquid jade".
With gaiwan: 85°C, 2-3g/110 ml gaiwan, Gongfu Cha method, temperatures 90/80/80/80/80/80/90°C
