The Rare Orchid Oolong from Fujian's Misty Peaks

Among China's prized oolong teas, Baiya Qilan stands as a relatively rare variety, cultivated primarily in the Daqin Mountain range of Pinghe County, Fujian. This region, celebrated as the "Source of Five Rivers," boasts abundant rainfall and exceptionally rich water resources. The mineral-rich soils here are particularly selenium-dense, creating ideal conditions for tea cultivation.

Perched at elevations exceeding 500 meters, the Baiya Qilan tea gardens exist in a realm of perpetual mist and cloud cover. The microclimate features diffused sunlight, high humidity, and dramatic diurnal temperature variations - the very elements that, as the ancient tea proverb goes, "breed exceptional tea in lofty mountains where clouds and mist dwell." Daqin Mountain remains shrouded in fog year-round, its peaks frequently disappearing into the vaporous embrace that nurtures these exceptional leaves.

With a cultivation history spanning over 250 years, the Pinghe Baiya Qilan represents a newer cultivar developed in 1981. Propagation typically occurs through cuttings, maintaining the genetic purity of this distinctive variety.

Our particular Pinghe Baiya Qilan undergoes light oxidation followed by two medium roastings. This careful processing coaxes out a remarkable harmony of roasted notes and natural orchid fragrance - a symphony of clarity and sweetness with an immediately captivating character. The tea presents vibrant energy in the cup, its roasted qualities never overwhelming the inherent floral elegance. Connoisseurs who appreciate roasted oolongs like Taiwan's Dong Ding will find our Baiya Qilan an essential experience.

Brewing Suggestions:

Tea: 7-8g per 110-150ml gaiwan

Method: Gongfu style with very brief infusions (adjust to taste)

Water: 95°C (203°F)

Infusions: Approximately 7 rounds

This tea's enduring charm lies in its ability to balance roasted depth with floral sophistication - a testament to both its exceptional terroir and masterful processing. Each steeping reveals new dimensions, from the initial orchid bouquet to the lingering roasted sweetness that dances on the palate long after the last sip.
